Privacy Policy

Our commitment to privacy

Since our establishment in 1991, Fidelity Charitable has been committed to maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and security of personal information about our current and potential donors. When you provide personal information to Fidelity Charitable, we believe that you should be aware of our policies designed to protect the confidentiality of this information and how we use it to service the Giving Account.

We hope you will take a moment to review our privacy policy, including certain aspects that depend on whether you deal with us directly or through a financial advisor or authorized representative.

We review our privacy policy annually. Our online notice is then updated to reflect any material changes.

How and why we obtain information

Fidelity Charitable obtains personal information about you in the following ways:

  • From you or your authorized representative on applications or forms (examples include name, address, social security number)
  • From transactional activity (for example, contributions and grant recommendations)
  • From other sources with your consent or with the consent of your authorized representative (for example, from other institutions if you contribute positions into Fidelity Charitable)

We may use this information to process transactions; to respond to inquiries from you or your representative and to develop, offer, and deliver new programs and services. Fidelity Charitable takes great care to protect your personal information and when we use it, we do so with respect for your privacy.

How we protect your information

Fidelity Charitable has always considered the strong protection of sensitive information to be a foundation of our donors' trust and a standard practice. We employ extensive physical, electronic, and procedural protection mechanisms, and we regularly adapt these controls to respond to changes in requirements and advances in technology.

Within Fidelity Charitable and among our service providers, we restrict access to personal information to those who require it to provide our services to you. For example, Fidelity Charitable has entered into a number of arrangements with Fidelity Investments® to provide investment management and administrative services to Fidelity Charitable.

Fidelity Charitable does not sell or rent donor names or information to any firm or non-profit organization. Fidelity Charitable has entered into fundraising arrangements with Fidelity Investments to offer and provide our programs to their customers. However, we do not share your information with Fidelity Investments or any other firm or nonprofit organization for their marketing or fundraising purposes, unless you or your authorized representative explicitly asks us to do so. You do not have to contact us to benefit from these protections; they apply automatically to all our donors.

We may share the personal information that we collect with government agencies or other regulatory bodies and law enforcement officials (for example, for tax reporting or for reporting suspicious transactions).

Privacy online

Privacy, security, and service online are just as critical as the rest of our operations. Fidelity Charitable works with our online systems service provider, National Charitable Services® (a Fidelity Investments company), to secure our systems from unauthorized access and to maintain the security of your online session. For example, we make extensive use of firewall barriers, encryption techniques and authentication procedures. We may also place cookies and similar files on your hard drive for security purposes, to facilitate site navigation, and to personalize your experience on our site.

For your convenience, Fidelity Charitable offers several options for accessing and, if necessary, correcting your Giving Account information. You may review your personal information using your quarterly Giving Account Statement or by logging on to your Giving Account at www.FidelityCharitable.org. You may also choose to write or call us with your request for information. Please see your quarterly statement for specific Internet addresses, mailing addresses and telephone numbers.
