How to help: Myanmar-Thailand earthquake

Updated April 2, 2025

On March 28, 2025, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit central Myanmar, causing extensive damage across one of the world's poorest countries. Many lives have been confirmed lost, thousands more are injured or missing, and many more are possibly displaced. The full extent of damage and loss remains unknown due to crippled infrastructure and disruption to communication and electricity. The dire situation in Myanmar is compounded by years of civil war.

More than 600 miles from the epicenter, the quake triggered the collapse of a high-rise under construction in Bangkok, Thailand. Lives were lost and many more are feared to be trapped under the rubble.

The death toll in both countries is expected to continue to rise. Significant aftershocks still threaten the region. Immediate and ongoing needs include medical attention and equipment, food and water, shelter, emergency supplies, and other resources for protecting vulnerable populations.
