On October 9, 2024, Hurricane Milton moved across the Gulf of Mexico and made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida as a Category 3 storm just weeks after the Southeast U.S. was hit by Hurricane Helene. Milton has caused destruction across Florida. The hurricane caused widespread power outages, flooding, and significant damage to homes and businesses. Funding is needed to support communities who are already marginalized, including farmworkers, immediate emergency needs, and assistance with rebuilding. The compounded damage following Helene will make recovery efforts more challenging and the economic impact is expected to be substantial.
Fidelity Charitable collaborates with the Center for Disaster Philanthropy to identify organizations that are responding in times of crisis. The following organizations are highlighted because they can activate quickly, have the ability to incorporate a large influx of donations, and have an established record in disaster response.
We’ve prioritized funds and responding organizations currently operating in the impacted areas.
